Are QR codes free to use permanently?
Yes — static QR codes (like the ones this tool generates) are free and never expire. The QR code encodes your data directly, so as long as the destination URL or content exists, the code works forever. "Dynamic" QR codes offered by paid services redirect through their servers, meaning they expire or break if you cancel your subscription. Static codes have no such risk.
What is error correction and which level should I use?
Error correction allows a QR code to be read even if part of it is damaged, dirty or covered. Higher correction = more redundancy = larger, denser code. Use Medium (15%) for most digital uses. Use High (25%) or Max (30%) if you plan to add a logo in the centre of the QR code, or if it will be printed on surfaces that may get worn or dirty.
What size should I make my QR code for print?
The minimum printable size for reliable scanning is about 2cm × 2cm (roughly 0.8 inches square). For business cards use at least 2.5cm, for posters use 5cm or larger. Download the PNG at 512px for print — if you need it larger, download the SVG which scales to any size without pixelating.
Can I use a white QR code on a dark background?
Yes — swap the foreground to white and background to your dark colour using the colour pickers. Most modern QR scanners handle inverted codes well. However, some older or simpler scanners may struggle with inverted codes, so test on a few devices before printing at scale.
How do I add a logo to my QR code?
This tool generates a clean QR code. To add a logo, download the SVG, open it in a vector editor (Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape) and place your logo in the centre. Make sure to set error correction to High (25%) or Max (30%) first — the logo covers part of the code and the extra redundancy ensures it still scans correctly. A logo should cover no more than 25-30% of the total code area.
Do I need an app to scan QR codes?
